If you live off Manchester Road, you already know the stretch between Grover and Pond as your commute. This weekend, July 17 through 19, the city is treating that same corridor as a single connected festival with a free trolley threading six activity nodes together. That is the part worth understanding before you decide whether to walk, drive, or just wander over from the house.
Why This Isn't a Car Show
A typical centennial cruise parks a few hundred classics in one lot and calls it a day. Wildwood is doing the opposite. Rather than a traditional car show, the city is creating a Route 66 road trip through the community, inviting visitors to cruise, park, explore, shop, dine, listen, and discover the places, businesses, and history that make this stretch of the Mother Road unique. The design point matters for residents: your neighborhood boutique, brewery, and BBQ joint are the venue, not the backdrop.
The corridor itself is the reason the format works here. Route 66 in Wildwood follows Manchester Road, and the corridor contains many of the city's historic assets, recognized as local landmarks or listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Friday, July 17: Tunes at the Village Green
Village Green is Wildwood's newly built outdoor gathering space at 16860 Main Street, just west of City Hall. The Friday kickoff is a themed concert running 6:45 to 9:15 p.m., with a Route 66-themed concert by The Rockwood Boys at Village Green featuring live music, history experiences, Essen Log Cabin tours, and family-friendly fire, ambulance, and police vehicle activities.
If you have never toured the Essen Log Cabin, this is the easy night to do it. It sits on the same grounds and rarely gets opened up outside of city events.
Saturday, July 18: The Cruise, Then the Six Stops
Here is the structural difference from most car weekends. Classic cars, motorcycles, specialty vehicles, and community favorites stage at Schnucks Wildwood Crossing before cruising the historic Route 66 corridor. Following the cruise, vehicles disperse among activity nodes and showcase areas throughout the community. Visitors may drive between locations or take advantage of complimentary trolley service connecting all activity nodes throughout the event.
The official cruise rolls at 10:30 a.m. and the activity nodes run until 3 p.m. Classic car and motorcycle registration is $10 per vehicle and includes participation in the official cruise and showcase. Admission is free for spectators.
The six trolley stops, roughly west to east along Manchester:
- Historic Grover at Wildwood Fitness Collective, 16966 Manchester Road. Family activities, food and retail vendors, vehicle displays, and exploration of the Historic Grover Business District, with many businesses along the district planning specials and family-friendly activities. This area is particularly known for its unique home decor and gift boutique businesses, such as The Porch and Three French Hens.
- Good News Brewing, 2603 West Avenue. Live music, food, beverages, games, and community gathering space.
- Old Pond School, 17123 Manchester Road. City information, historic exhibits, educational programming, music, vehicle displays, and family-friendly activities.
- Big Chief Roadhouse, 17352 Manchester Road, one of the corridor's most photographed roadside buildings.
- Historic Bethel Wildwood Church, a quieter stop with historic programming.
- Stovall's Grove and the Wildwood Historical Society, 18720 Stovall Lane and 18750 Highway 100. Museum tours, Route 66 displays, music, historic programming, vehicle displays, food, and more. This activity area is shaping up to be one of the most unique experiences of the event, well worth the trip to visit Wildwood's home of country music.
If you have out-of-town family in for the weekend, the trolley loop lets you skip the parking hunt. Parking is available at the Wildwood Parking Garage across from Wildwood City Hall at 16860 Main Street, on street in Historic Grover along Old Manchester Road, and at Quest Church at 17126 Manchester Road across from Old Pond School.
Sunday, July 19: Taste, Slowly
Sunday is the quiet closer, and it is built around your regular restaurants doing something a little different. A historic marker unveiling happens at Big Chief Roadhouse at noon, Joe Sonderman gives a Route 66 presentation at Living Word Church, 17315 Manchester Road, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., and area businesses and restaurants run special events throughout the day, including National Ice Cream Day at Singers Ice Cream and a historic marker moment at Big Chief Roadhouse.
Parkside Grille is hosting a themed afternoon starting at 2 p.m. with live music from Flipside & Friends from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. and Danny Steel & the Razor Boys from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., plus specially themed food and drinks. If you have never made it out to Stovall's Grove on a Sunday, this is a low-pressure excuse.
What the Weekend Is Actually Anchored To
The three days are the headline, but the city has scheduled the centennial to run mid-April through October. From mid-April through October, residents and visitors are invited to experience Route 66 in new and exciting ways, from interactive scavenger hunts and classic car events to community celebrations, outdoor movies, and seasonal festivities.
That means the corridor keeps working after this weekend ends. A few pieces to put on the calendar:
Music on Main, remaining 2026 dates. The concert series moved to Village Green this year. Tonight's Route 66 concert is technically the July date in the series, and one more is scheduled: August 21. Bring a chair.
Wildwood Farmers Market. Saturdays at Town Center Plaza, 221 Plaza Drive, 8 a.m. start. If you have never grabbed the Route 66-themed salsa that a local vendor has been making just for this year, ask around at the market booths.
The August softball tournament. Festivities continue from August 14 to 16 with the Wildwood business co-ed softball tournament, hosted by the Pond Athletic Association.
Celebrate Wildwood. Celebrate Wildwood is Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the new outdoor event location, Village Green, 16860 Main Street. The parade starts at 10 a.m. sharp on Saturday, September 19, running from Schnucks Wildwood Crossing at 16580 Manchester Road, to Taylor Road at the roundabout, then west on Main Street to parade end at Fountain Place.
The Village Green playground project. If you have kids or grandkids with mobility needs, this one is worth watching. A Route 66-themed bingo fundraiser is at Good News Brewery, 2603 West Ave, on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 6 p.m. Every participant receives 10 bingo cards, a drink of their choice, and a fun-filled family-friendly evening with opportunities to win prizes. Tickets are $25.00 per adult and $10.00 per child.
Two Things Worth Knowing as a Resident
First, the trolley solves the Manchester Road congestion problem on Saturday better than driving does. If your house is anywhere near Wildwood Fitness Collective, Good News, or Quest Church, park once and ride. The alternative is turning around in strangers' driveways for two hours.
Second, the businesses at these six stops are the same ones you already patronize the other 51 weekends of the year. Three French Hens and The Porch in Historic Grover, Good News, Big Chief, Parkside Grille, Singers Ice Cream. Showing up on Cruise Day tells the owners you noticed. Small thing. Matters.
The centennial gives the corridor a headline. What it actually reveals is a neighborhood the rest of the metro drives past on their way somewhere else. You already live here. This weekend is a good excuse to walk it end to end and remember why.
